This is something of a controversial article. It has been praised by many collectivist Anarchists and criticized as divisive by proponents of individualism, especially of the Hakim Bey and variety. I wanted to post it here and hear what people think.

Also, this section is worth reading. Its challenging the notion of Anarchy as Chaos.

  • Murry Bookchin is probably the best writer on social or collectivist anarchism. Individualist anarchists rather dislike him since he can peg them to a wall very articulately and accurately (my opinion of course).

I dislike individualist anarchism (or insurrectionary anarchism) myself because I feel it cultivates almost the same blaze, or indifferent attitude towards the people on the planet that the wealthy elites hold (which Mr Bookchin's essay talks about). Social anarchists hold to the values of co-operation and mutual aid, insurrectionaries view co-operation with any formal organizing along those lines as almost tyranny from the community. "That's a crock" --- for any community to flow and run well you have to have co-operation and consensus... Individualists in this way come off like they are still fighting against their 4th grades teachers - or that they are cultivating personal eccentricities over working within their communities to apply any solid anarchist values. This is the group commonly referred to as "nihlist's" and promote (perhaps un- intentionally) the misconceptions of anarchy as chaos, setting anarchism back.
    • Humans are naturally self organizing. The question is what will the values be? Not much happens without cooperation. Highly evolved cooperation leads to mutual benefit. What else does anyone need to know.

Ciarra, I like what you said. There are all levels of maturity and intellectual development and degree of moral empathy. Just the way it is.
